The Kenwood TH-D74 is a tri-band handheld radio that is capable of reception from the AM broadcast band up to 524 MHz. Its maximum power output is 5 watts on the 2 meter, 1.25 meter, and 70 centimeter amateur bands. Its minimum power output may be set to 50 mw. It is capable of reception of FM, AM, SSB, and CW signals. It includes a 1200 baud or 9600 baud TNC (terminal node controller) which may be used to operate APRS or packet. It also includes D-Star capability. My primary use for this radio is D-STAR (connecting to one of my two hotspots in the shack) or sometimes packet Winlink connections. The radio also has GPS capability used for APRS and keeping accurate time.
