My Alinco DR-435 Mk III was acquired to serve as a radio for my Winlink gateway node which operates at a data rate of 9600 baud at 440.5 MHz.The radio provides a maximum power output of 35 watts. The radio is capable of wide band FM or narrow band FM. The radio has a rear panel connector that will provide 1200 baud data output as well as 9600 baud data output when the radio is placed into digital mode. The radio also has a wide range of features appropriate for FM voice communications, but at this point in time I anticipate using it as a dedicated node that will be available 24/7/365. The radio is interfaced to a DRA-50 digital radio adapter (sound card) capable of handling the bandwidth required for 9600 baud and then the DRA-50 is interfaced via a standard USB connection to a dedicated low power mini PC based upon the Intel Atom processor. The PC runs Windows 10 Professional and the software terminal node controller is VARA FM. The DR-435 is powered by an Astron 13.8 volt, 25 amp switching power supply which also runs 24/7/365.
