The Icom IC-9700 is my primary VHF/UHF rig. The radio covers the 2 meter, 70 centimeter, and 23 centimeter bands. The power output on 2 meters is approximately 100 watts, on 70 centimeters it is approximately 75 watts, and it is 10 watts on 23 centimeters. I utilize a 60 watt Down East Microwave/Q5 Signal amplifier on 23 centimeters. I also utilize SHF MVV mast-mount pre-amps on 70 centimeters and 23 centimeters. The pre-amps are switched on and off and powered through the antenna coax feed from the IC-9700. The IC-9700 has an internal sound card which I interface via USB to the shack computer for digital modes. I also sometimes switch my Mirage 160 watt 2 meter amplifier into the antenna line when I need a little more power (after reducing the IC-9700 power output). I ensure frequency accuracy (especially important on 23 cm) with an external 10 MHz GPSDO. The IC-9700 periodically checks this GSPDO input and adjusts the frequency appropriately. Unfortunately, the GPSDO signal is not actually locked to the internal master oscillator which would ensure even greater frequency accuracy and stability. The IC-9700 is powered by my 13.8 volt, 35 amp Astron power supply.
